Introducing…
The European Sea Bass is a coastal fish, often found in estuaries. It has a wide diet including smaller fish of its own species.
As the name may suggest European Sea Bass is caught off all coasts in Europe from Norway and the Baltic round to the Black Sea and also off the west coast of Africa, but nowhere else in the world, although the American striped bass is a close cousin.
Appearance
What do they look like?
European Sea Bass are silvery grey to bluish on the back, silvery on the sides and white on the belly. They have an elongated body and can grow up to one metre.
Diet
What do they eat?
School bass will feed on worms, crab or fish while older fish will eat almost anything they can which is one of the reasons these animals suffer from pollution.
Smaller bass are known as school bass and stay in shoals in and around estuaries, while larger bass live in deeper water and become solitary hunters.
